Wood Review: Orlimar Tri-metal 3 Wood

Orlimar Tri-metal 3 Wood
In my constant battle to find a 3 wood I feel good about, we've come to one of the most popular and still fastest growing clubs out there. The orlimar tri-metal has gone from an informercial "gimmick" club to the most carried fairway wood on both the PGA and Senior PGA tour. You know those guys aren't going to carry lackluster clubs in their bags, so there has to be something to their alpha maraging technology.
The Good: This club can hit the ball a long ways. When hit solidly, the ball absolutely rockets off the face and rolls for forever. The club has a great feel to it and you get nice feedback from each ball struck.
The Bad: I've had a tendency to top the ball with this club for awhile. Sure this is probably due to a poor swing, but it's not something I battled with any other 3 woods. Now, I'm hitting it more solid…but the balls seems to come off with a big draw. I've watched a few other people hit the club and their misses seem to be similar topped shots.
Overall: I think the reason this club is so popular for Tour players, is because it really rewards a good swing. The club is tops in terms of sheer power and distance. I think there are some other woods that may send the ball a little higher with more carry, but add in the roll, and this club can knock it a mile. Alas, if you're swing isn't solid, I can't see this club improving your chances of reaching that elusive par 5 in two or better accuracy off the tee. It's a good club - but only if you're a good player.
